I am so excited to have this first round of encaustic pieces done! This is very new to me, but I really wanted to do something more with my photography. It is really hard to stand out as a photographer these days when everyone can snap a beautiful photo even with just their smartphones. It's a tough gig, but I'm going to keep pushing through until I find my way!
Encaustic is something I stumbled across (I can't remember how exactly), but after some research I put the money out and bought my materials to get started. The practice of Encaustic came from ancient Greek artists as far back as the 5th century B.C., and it means to heat or burn in. The combination of beeswax and damar resin gives my photos that extra "uniqueness" I think I was looking for. I love the texture, depth, and dreamy softness the encaustic gives my photos. I'm going to keep experimenting with this, but I think I'm off to a great start. Crossing my fingers that I will get good reactions come market time in 2017!
